When I’m on the page http://www.ethnolinks.com/abau-aau/
I click on the link “click here for discussion and resources…” it takes me to
    http://www.ethnolinks.com/forums/search.php?search=Abau&forum-id=Pacific
which says “Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here. ”

What I’m trying to do is to link in this page
    http://www.vision2025.org/jesus_in_abau.html
FYI Although we’re not adding any more languages to this one we have already we are going to keep them on the web, maybe on a new site. So I’m wanting to add links to those documents from your pages.

Thanks, Paul. That’s a legacy from a previous way of handling user-input through a forum rather than through the comment system. The current way of adding user-info is through the comment fields although Kevin prefers using a separate system (like forums) because it allows us to rebuild the posts in cases such as this without losing the comments. I’ll be emailing you for advice on this very topic!

Can you add macrolanguages like Kalenjin (http://www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=kln )? Otherwise, I wouldn’t know where to put this link to the BSK’s Kalenjin revision: http://www.biblesociety-kenya.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=31

Some languages are a pain to find. For the Kenyan Endo-Marakwet BT project, neither “Endo” nor “Marakwet” give any search results. I had to go into ethnologue.com, find the language code and search for that. Of course, I could always find it in the listing for the country, but scrolling through 71 languages (for Kenya) and 127 languages (for Tanzania) is a pain! Any remedies on the horizon?

Whoa! What happened to the translations? Whenever I click a different language from English, I only get blank pages. Did you not pay transposh.org’s bill ;-)

Baba Tabita, your pain is our gain. Thank you for putting this through the paces.

    RE: Macro-Languages

I don’t know what to do on that. We’re mirroring the Ethnologue db. I’d like to talk to some people at SIL and see what they say.

    RE: Language names

On the next build of the db I’m hoping to add alternative names as a field on each language page. That should improve searching. I’m going to play with meta-data for Endo and Marakwet. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Update: I added the alternate names to the tags for Markweet, Nyungwe and Langi. Using the Search Everything plugin I’m getting good results.

    RE: Transposh

I’ve disabled that plugin. It seems to be failing. I think we need a better option that isn’t dependent on Google.

I’ve noticed that the Category menu and the Flickr metadata are causing Google Custom Search to be less accurate. Try searching for Vanuatu for example and you get all sorts of inappropriate pages.

I’m turning off Google Custom Search for the time being.
